NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.
Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.
Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

The de Soyres family were from several generations who had resided at Bordeaux, France, but were originally of Spanish extraction.
The Rev. Francois Jourdain de Soyres, came to England at an early age, and became a Protestant in due course, possibly because of attending an Anglican school, and in later years, after his ordination, married Mademoiselle de Montmollin, a Swiss lady, native of Neuchatel, whom he had met at the court of King George III and Queen Charlotte, at Windsor.
Mr. de Soyres then held the post of Court Chaplain and continued to do so until the death of the King, after which he and his wife removed with their family to Bristol and set up a school for boys and girls.
Somewhere about the beginning of the nineteenth century, the post of minister to the French congregation, then numerous in Bristol, fell vacant, and was offered to Mr. de Soyres. This congregation had originally been a Calvinistic body which left France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. At some later period it had joined the Church ol England, and its services were conducted according to the French version of the Book of Common Prayer.
The family of the Rev. Francois de Soyres consisted of twelve children four sons and eight daughters. Of this large family, however, only two of the sons left descendants, namely, the eldest, Leopold, whose sons migrated to Australia; and Francis, who later became the father of John de Soyres. The last named, Francis, was educated at Sidney-Sussex College, Cambridge, and was later appointed chaplain to the Duke of Cumberland. He married Miss Andalusia FitzGerald, a sister of Edward FitzGerald, the translator of "Omar Khayyam."
NOTE: Marianne's son-in-law, James Fripp (wife of Madeleine de Soyres), mentions in his will that Madeleine had an unmarried aunt, Mademoiselle Julie de Montmollin. I have thereby assumed that this was Marianne's maiden name, and that Julie was her sister.
The following information was extracted from an article about the de Soyres family.
Website: http://sjchess.ca/desoyresbio.htm... the maternal grandmother of John de Soyres was a Swiss lady, Miss Marianne de Montmollin, a member of a prominent family of bankers, whose descendants still reside in Neuchatel. The de Montmollin family proudly boast of being the immediate descendants of one of the officers shot down before the Tuilleries in Paris with the famous Swiss Guards who gave their lives to defend the King of France in 1792, and whose names are all inscribed beneath the statue of the "Lion of Lucerne," the name "Montmollin" appearing about half-way down the list of officers.
