NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.
Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.
Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

Lord Hallam Tennyson 2nd Bart.
Hallam was named after Alfred's good friend, Arthur Henry Hallam, a writer and critic of English literature who introduced Alfred to his wife, Emily. Arthur was engaged to Alfred's sister, Emily, but died in Austria, of apoplexy in 1833, aged just 22.
A large collection of personal papers & diaries is held at the National Library of Australia. Their biographical note follows. Please visit their website for full details: http://www.nla.gov.au/ms/findaids/0479.htmlHallam, 2nd Baron Tennyson, was the oldest surviving son of Alfred, 1st Baron Tennyson, Poet Laureate, and Emily Tennyson (nee Sellwood). He was born at Twickenham on 11 August 1852, and educated at Marlborough College, Trinity College Cambridge, and the ‘Inner Temple’. For many years he acted as his father’s secretary, and following his father’s death and his succeeding to the barony on 6 October 1892, he wrote a memoir of the poet. Later, as the 2nd Baron Tennyson, he was prepared to accept a colonial governorship – a fact which may not be unrelated to his father’s interest in Imperial Federation. In 1899 he was appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of South Australia. He took up office on 10 April 1899, and continued in it until 17 July 1902 (from 1 January 1901 – the inauguration of the Australian Commonwealth – the designation ‘Commander-in-Chief’ was omitted from his title).
Lord Tennyson relinquished his position in South Australia in order to take up the appointment of Acting-Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, following the resignation of the 7th Earl of Hopetoun. Lord Tennyson served as Acting-Governor-General from 17 July 1902 to 9 January 1903, from which latter date he was confirmed in the appointment. He continued to serve as Governor-General until 21 January 1904 when he returned to England. Lord Tennyson did not undertake any subsequent governorships, although in March 1903 he indicated his readiness to serve as the Governor-General of Canada, and in November 1905 he was offered the governorship of Madras. In 1901 while still in South Australia, Lord Tennyson was Deputy Governor of the Isle of Wight.

George, being the first son of his father, George Tennyson, should have inherited a large fortune, but after a major disagreement, his father left his estate to his younger son, Charles, who then took the name d'Eyncourt.
George was then forced to lead a humble life as a clergyman. The dispute between him and his wealthy brother caused a bitter family life and led him to drink.
Edward was placed in a mental home in 1833 until his death.
Like his father, Arthur suffered from epileptic fits. He became an alcoholic and was institutionalised for several months in 1843.
Sarah was a sister of Sir John Franklin, an explorer, and Sir Willingham Franklin.
Charles, like his more famous brother Alfred, was also a poet. He was educated at Louth Grammer School; Trinity College, Cambridge (Feb 1828 to 1832). B.A.
After leaving college he became addicted to opium for a number of years.
He changed his surname to Turner as a condition of a large inheritance from his uncle.
