NOTE: This tree is a "work in progress". Many of the notes are incomplete and some links will not work correctly, especially when inside a Scrapbook. I still have much data to add and apologise to those contributors whose information has not yet been added. My sincere thanks to all.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist or conflict with other sources. Individuals with uncertain details have a (See Notes) label attached to their name.

Any photos will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. These allow only a limited amount of text so I will be adding feature pages containing more detailed notes, photos and links. These will appear at the right of the Scrapbook links. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You can use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically excluded, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

Susan Green

A tree at Ancestry.com has Susan's birth as 2 Dec 1790 in Beaufort, South Carolina, but if the marriage date is correct, she would have only been aged 8 years. Perhaps the year should read 1779.

In 1850, she was living with her daughter, Cornelia De Treville (nee Joyner) who married Richard De Treville. He became Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina in 1854.

On 21 April 1843, Susan applied for pensions due to her from her two deceased husbands, John William Grayson and William Joyner.

The details have been transcribed by Will Graves.

Rev. Dr. William Theophilus (Tomlinson) Brantley

Dr. W.T. Brantley was one of the first pastors of the "First Baptist Church" of Charleston, and a leading Protestant minister in America during the early 1800s. He later became a Doctor of Divinity.

Further details can be found at the Brantley Association of America

His middle name was originally Tomlinson, after his mother.

In 1817, he conducted the funeral service of William Norton at St. Helena parish church, Beaufort. It is possible that William Norton was a granfather of Dr. Brantley's 2nd wife, Margaret Joyner. Mr. Norton's sister, Elizabeth was married to a Mr. Joyner before she married Rev. William Eastwick Graham.

Margaret Joyner

It is possible that Margaret's paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Norton, although this is purely speculative at present. Elizabeth was married to a Mr. Joyner before she married Rev. William Eastwick Graham.

In 1817, Margaret's husband conducted the funeral service of Elizabeth's brother, William Norton, at St. Helena parish church, Beaufort.

However, it is said that Elizabeth never had any of her own children, but did raise the children of her 2nd husband, Rev. Wm. E. Graham. The mother of these children was Sarah Fripp, daughter of John Fripp III and Elizabeth Hann.

Richard de Treville

This Biography of Richard Jr., by Edan Hughes, was found at: http://www.calart.com/Data/Artists/Richard_DeTreville.asp
RICHARD DeTREVILLE (1864-1929) Born in Beaufort, South Carolina on November 17, 1864 into a prominent, old family of French ancestry. His grandfather fought with George Washington in the Revolutionary War and at the time of his birth during the Civil War, his father was Lt Governor of South Carolina.

Little is known about his art training; he was possibly self-taught. In 1892, he moved to California and settled in Stockton where he established a small newspaper called Det's Magazine. Shortly after 1910 he moved from Stockton to San Francisco where he worked as a cartoonist for the Park Presidio News. In his studio on Clement Street he exhibited his paintings as well as in local department stores and art galleries. His works were handled locally by Schussler Brothers and Sanborn & Vail. The last few years of his life were spent across the bay in Alameda where he died on February 25, 1929.

DeTreville worked in oil and, on rare occasions, in watercolor. He was known to be an excellent portraitist although his portraits are rare. The most prolific of early California painters, his thousands of small landscapes are invariably of the San Francisco Bay area, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and northern California. He sometimes signed his works "DeT". Member: American Art Bureau. Exhibited: White House Department Store (San Francisco), 1926 (250 oils). Works held: California Historical Society; Oakland Museum; Alameda Historical Society.

Sarah McKee Ellis (See Notes)

Another tree suggests that Sarah's middle name was Burton.
