NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY WEBSITE ONLY, and is meant as a stopgap until the Main Website has been updated. Some of the notes are incomplete and many of the links will not work. There is still much data to add and conflicts to settle. This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologies to those whose information has not yet been added.
I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist. Individuals with uncertain details have a (see notes) label attached to their name.
If photos exist, they will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am now adding more presentable feature pages containing notes, photos and links. These pages are shown to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.
Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.
If you do find errors, conflicts or would like to update your line please let me know. Webmaster
Sir Charles Noel (Edwardes) 1st Earl of Gainsborough
Charles was the first in a second creation of the title of Earl of Gainsborough.
The titles Viscount Campden and Lord Hicks of Ilmington were created by Sir Baptist Hicks, who died 18 Oct 1629 without a son. His titles were passed to his son-in-law, Edward Noel, the husband of his eldest daughter, Julian Hicks.

The titles expired upon Henry's death, but his estates were inherited by his nephew, Sir Gerard Noel Edwardes. Gerard changed the family name to Noel, by Royal Licence on 5 May 1798 and became Gerard Noel Noel.
Charles Noel (formally Edwardes) created the second title of Earl of Gainsborough on 16 Aug 1841 and became became 1st Earl of Gainsborough (2nd creation), Baron Noel of Ridlington, Rutland and Viscount Campden of Campden, Gloucester.
