The picture on the right is of my Great Grandfather, William Owen Hibdige (right of centre), the tram driver.   This photo was taken about 1895 on his route at Ann's Hill, Gosport, Hampshire.   I found two copies of it, along with many other treasures, by tracing two of his descendants.  His Father, Thomas Hibdige , was landlord of "The Hoeford Inn" public house in Gosport, from 1867 - 1876, which still exists today.  William's Uncle, John Hibidage, was a wealthy builder responsible for much of the early construction of Bournemouth.  John's business partner, and executor of his will, was the architect Christopher Crabbe-Creeke of whom a statue has recently been erected in Bournemouth.    Another Great Grandfather, Charles James Roberts, owned a music shop in the High Street, Tonbridge, Kent (now a building society).   He earned some of his wealth by volunteering for the 1870 "Red River Expedition" in Canada, a mission to regain Fort Garry from the rebels.   He made an account of his trek through the lakes and forests which can be found here.
