NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY WEBSITE ONLY, and is meant as a stopgap until the Main Website has been updated. Some of the notes are incomplete and many of the links will not work. There is still much data to add and conflicts to settle.

This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologies to those whose information has not yet been added.

I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist. Individuals with uncertain details have a (see notes) label attached to their name.

If photos exist, they will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am now adding more presentable feature pages containing notes, photos and links. These pages are shown to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.

Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.

If you do find errors, conflicts or would like to update your line please let me know. Webmaster

Brig. Berenger Colborne Bradford MBE, DSO, MC

Berenger was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire.

In 1932, he was commissioned in the service of the Black Watch, where he became commander of the 5th Battalion between 1944 - 1946, and commander of the 2nd Battalion between 1953 - 1956.

He was wounded in the Second World War, and mentioned in despatches. For his services, he was awarded the M.B.E., a Companion, D.S.O. and the Military Cross. He retired from the military in 1959.

His exploits in WW2 are are documented in the book: "Escape from St Valery-en-Caux: The Adventures of Captain Bradford", written by his son, Andrew. It was compiled from diaries and letters, coded messages, and correspondence between his family and the War Office in their desperate effort to hear news of his safety.

The book tells of Captain Bradford's experiences between 1939 and 1941, during which time he was in the thick of the action in France, leading up to the surrender of the Highland Division at Saint Valery-en-Caux in June 1940. While being marched into captivity Capt. Bradford managed to escape once from the Germans and then seven further times from the Vichy French.

This account details his journey to safety in Gibraltar, spanning France, Spain, and North Africa, including a night crossing of the Pyrenees and an astonishing 700-mile voyage in a 17 foot sailing boat.

He and his son, Andrew, were both Members of the Royal Company of Archers.
