NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY WEBSITE ONLY, and is meant as a stopgap until the Main Website has been updated. Some of the notes are incomplete and many of the links will not work. There is still much data to add and conflicts to settle. This tree has been compiled with the help of many contributors. Sincere thanks to all, and apologies to those whose information has not yet been added.
I have tried to verify as much information as possible but errors may exist. Individuals with uncertain details have a (see notes) label attached to their name.
If photos exist, they will be found in the individual's Scrapbook. Click the "ScrapBook" link in the left menu for a list. Scrapbooks can only contain a limited amount of text so I am now adding more presentable feature pages containing notes, photos and links. These pages are shown to the right of their Scrapbooks, but are presently very few. NOTE: The Main Menu (Top Left) will not work when you are in a scrapbook. You will have to use your browser's BACK button to exit or use the "Exit Scrapbook" link below or here.
Details and photos of individuals labelled as living are automatically filtered out of the Tree, however a separate list is available here for living people who have permitted or asked for their details to be published.
If you do find errors, conflicts or would like to update your line please let me know. Webmaster

Notes from John Bridgen:
Laura Bridgen married (Etienne Martel)??? by whom she had Barry and Nelson. Etienne ran a business in Bath selling French laces. The boys are thought to have emigrated to New Zealand. A cousin of mine resident in that country put notices in the papers seeking any information on them or their issue but without result. The story goes that Laura was a drinking companion of Carry's and "one dark and stormy night" walked through pouring rain with her hair soaked and dripping, hanging round her head in long tangled spikes. Clutched in her hand was a note to Carry from Etienne Martel. "You taught her to drink; you can look after her."
It is thought that Nelson may have been involved in the theatre. There was an actor with this name, who played a Yokel in the B&W silent movie, "The Island Of Wisdom" - 1920 UK
It is also thought that Nelson may have had a sister, Christine, who married the actor, Gordon Harker.

Frederick Holdsworth Broadbent
It was believed, by the late Mother of Tim Gray, that Elizabeth's first spouse was a nephew of Sir William Broadbent. We now know he was not, but it is possible that he was a cousin.

Notes from John Bridgen:
John believes that Elizabeth had six children in all by her three husbands, but in a discussion with his cousin Margaret, in 1990, she thought the number more likely to have been 12 or 13.John also discovered a note from Harold written down at Betty Russell’s direction stating that Lizzie had the following progeny: Ethel, May, Fred, Harold and additional up to 12 or 13.
NOTES from Janet Tyson
Elizabeth was thought to have had three husbands: Broadbent, Jack Huff??, and Harry Smith, who was said to have been a well-known orchestral conductor, once presented with a special baton from the Royal Marine Band???
Janet believes Elizabeth died around 1931/32, when living at Ilchester Rd., Dagenham/Barking, Essex.
Elizabeth had the following children (not necessarily in this order):Frederick (died in WWI, around 1915)
May (stage name Rita Holdsworth)
Ethel (stage name Ethel Wensley) May and Ethel were both in the chorus of the first production of Chu Chin Chow, in London, which seems to correspond with the Gordon Harker reference, as he was in it, too!
Harold (in the Royal Marines). He married Mable --- and had twins Sylvia and Sidney (named after Sylvia Sidney!)
Lily (1896-97?)
Freda (?1900)
Hilda (Sept 17, 1904, d. Apr 10, 1985) is a bit of a mystery, as she was the youngest, and also the only one with no birth certificate! She never needed one until she left the country in her 60’s! There was a family tale that her sister was supposed to get the certificate but she never ‘got around to it’ Years later, the story emerged that Elizabeth had gone into service of some kind (in great estate houses, of course!), later in life, and had brought Hilda along, at the age of 13, to act as parlour maid. It was thought that a ‘liaison’ between a well-to-do (married) landowner and Elizabeth brought Hilda into the world, which is why she was never registered in the Birth records.
